Dirk Kunze

Dirk Kunze has been a police officer for 33 years. Following his patrol duty in Cologne, he went on to work as a criminal investigator. After having worked in the 24/7 criminal investigation department of the biggest authority in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), processing robberies became his field of activity, while he was particularly interested in electronic investigation methods. Because of his technical pioneering role, he headed the central training in NRW for police database systems and developed the standards and further training for mobile communications forensics of the police NRW. After he received his Master’s degree, Dirk Kunze headed the cyber investigation department in the Cybercrime Competence Center of the police NRW and built up the Cyber Research and Investigation Center of the police NRW. Following the successful completion of a large IT project of the police NRW, he took over the Criminal Investigation Department 1 for serious and capital offenses in Aachen and was deputy chief of criminal investigation at the same time. Since December 2022, Dirk Kunze has been the deputy head of the Cybercrime Competence Center of the police NRW, head of the Digital Crime Scene Intervention Team of the LKA NRW and of the investigation department.
