Dirk Labudde has been a professor of Bioinformatics at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences since 2009, and he founded the first Bachelor’s course of “General and Digital Forensics” in Germany in 2014, for which he was appointed professor in the same year. Since 2017 he has also headed the Cybersecurity Training Lab of Fraunhofer Academy.

Moreover, Dirk Labudde is head of the research group FoSIL (Forensic Science Investigation Lab) at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, which deals with a vast variety of forensic issues. The focus is on identifying technologies that are relevant and innovative from a forensics/security perspective and combining them with agile knowledge management to tools that can be used for forensics in practice or for interdisciplinary crisis and disaster management. In this context, Dirk Labudde also works as an expert in court and is a consultant to the police and to public prosecutors.

From 1988 until 1997 he studied theoretical and medical physics at the University of Rostock, the College Enschede (Netherlands) and the University of Kaiserslautern. He received his diploma in 1993 and completed a PhD in theoretical physics in 1997, while lecturing at the medical school in Neubrandenburg during this time as well.

Dirk Labudde received the Sächsischer Lehrpreis (Saxon Teaching Award) in 2014 and became an IARIA Fellow in 2018, both due to his excellent work in teaching and research.
